  Your thoughts are appreciated, Nancy, jgnat and new hope.

  I agree with what you have written, jgnat, some of which is borne out in Carlos Baker's biography of Ernest Hemingway. Personally, writing is not a lonely world because I live in a neighborhood of many published writers and we confer constantly. Not to mention, of course, the wonderful support and feedback of our friends here on JWN! You put it so well, Nancy, and thank you, new hope, for your reference to Anne Frank.

  No longer must we writers lock ourselves away, though times of solitude and reflection are necessary.

  53 years ago we got married in a kh by a bro.

  about 20 years ago my wife and i, and two children left the cult , and have never been happier .. wifey was happy with the flowers i gave her and this evening we will go for a quiet dinner at a restuarant with a bottle or two of champers and if i`m lucky i may even get desserts , or not.. smiddy.

  • The book listed below was our "Bible" in the Bethel proofreading department. It was published in 1957, but the information remains viable and it's a hoot to read. I, like you, also use "Strunk and White." Doing research on various authors and their respective styles, I have learned a great deal more detail on style, syntax, grammatical terminology and usage, etc. from the links provided online. There's a world of up-to-the-minute information at our fingertips! CC

  Good morning!

  Yes, the constant mention of Satan at meetings and in conversation became too much. Strange, how irrational fear has left the building and constant blame-throwing (on Satan) has ceased. I'm OK with the concept of time and unforeseen occurrence and that we humans make our own messes.

  Life in the real world is actually rather peaceful compared to how we once thought and lived!

  I am comforted by the realization that my little life has not been lived and spent totally in vain. There's been a lot of good stuff come my way. Most of my mistakes were not life altering.

  Certainly, I would have done some things differently: I would have erred more on the side of kindness rather than judgment; I would have fed and clothed those in need instead of wishing that, somehow, they would be warm and well fed; I would have used daily or given away those "special things" I owned (they wound up safe and useless in storage).

  Though called a "man of God," I would have preached less and allowed the unlettered and ordinary man to teach me a thing or two about what is truly the "real life."
